Edmund has been elected to the Bar Council on three occasions now. He continues to impress with his passion and industry in his duties as well as his initiatives at the Bar.

He served as Chair of the National Young Lawyers Committee (NYLC) for two terms (2006-2008), and is in his second term as Chair of the Human Rights Committee (HRC).

I have had the pleasure of serving with Edmund on both the NYLC and the HRC. He brings infectious enthusiasm, sincerity, fresh ideas and a unique perspective to issues affecting the Bar and society. He speaks fearlessly for what he believes in and encourages others, particularly younger members of the Bar, to do the same.

This term, the HRC has grown into an increasingly vocal and able committee capable of responding more effectively and expeditiously to human rights matters. Guided by the ‘Blueprint for Human Rights’ adopted in 2007, the Committee continues to advocate systemic changes required for the promotion of civil liberties in our country. This is something that all members of the Bar can be proud of.

Edmund also understands that lawyers play a constitutional role to protect the public interest. He seeks to balance this role within the context of moves to liberalise the profession. Of particular concern to him is to ensure that all litigants will be able to obtain quality legal representation, and the avowed innovations in liberalisation will not only benefit a select few.

I believe that Edmund’s work has touched many both within and outside the Bar.

I have no doubt that he will continue his hard work should he be elected.
