It is with great sadness that we record that Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, who was the sole proprietor of Messrs Sri Ram in Kuala Lumpur, passed away on 29 Jan 2023.
Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1970, and was one of the most senior Members of the Malaysian Bar for the past several years. He was a member of the Bar Council from 1976 to 1977, 1983 to 1984, and 1985 to 1989 (four consecutive terms).
In September 1994, he became the first legal practitioner in Malaysia to be elevated directly to the Appellate Court as Judge. On 15 Apr 2009, he was elevated as a Judge of the Federal Court of Malaysia. He retired on 16 Feb 2010.
In that same year, he returned to the legal profession as a consultant at Messrs Soo Thien Ming & Nashrah. Later on in 2014, he opened his firm, Messrs Sri Ram.
The Malaysian Bar extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his family members and loved ones.
