During the 2011/2012 term, the Task Force on Combined Rules of Court (“Rules Task Force”) has continued with its primary objective of liaising with the Judiciary on the proposal for a single set of civil procedure rules (“Proposed Combined Rules”) for the High Court and Subordinate Courts.
A working committee under the Judges Rules Committee was set up to work on the Proposed Combined Rules, comprising representatives from the Rules Task Force, the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Judiciary.
The last meeting of the working committee was held on 1 Apr 2011, during which the proposed amendments, by the Attorney General’s Chambers Drafting Division, on the proposed draft of the orders, were discussed.
The Rules Task Force is in the process of preparing a draft of the court forms, reviewing the proposal from the Court Liaison Committee’s Subordinate Courts Personal Injury Working Group on the orders relating to personal injury matters in the Proposed Combined Rules, and drafting the omnibus provisions relating to the changes to the rules.
The Rules Task Force will also take into account and make appropriate changes to accommodate the amendments that were brought about by the Subordinate Courts (Amendment) Rules 2011, Rules of the High Court (Amendment) 2011, Rules of the Court of Appeal (Amendment) 2011 and Rules of the Federal Court (Amendment) 2011.
