INTI International University recently invited the Bar Council Safer Malaysia Committee to conduct a talk at its Nilai campus on 20 Sept 2014 (Saturday), as part of the university’s community service and co-curriculum programme. The purpose of the three-hour talk was to introduce the students to elements of crime and to educate them on crime prevention.
Committee members Sarah Kambali, Saha Deva and Marcus Low were the facilitators for the talk, which was attended by approximately 20 students.
The facilitators introduced to the participants the key aspects of crime, that is, vigilance, deterrence and prevention. In addition, they were urged to always pay attention to their surroundings, as being alert is foremost in preventing crimes from occurring.
The talk was successful and the university intends to invite the Bar Council Safer Malaysia Committee to its future safety events. The committee believes that the talk was an eye-opener to the participants, with many of them developing a positive interest towards the Safer Malaysia module. With programmes such as these, participants would view the occurrences of crime differently, and appreciate the importance of preventing crimes as they affect our quality of life.
