The ladies soccer match took place on the morning of 27 Apr 2019. The Malaysian team was confident of a good match, and the weather and field conditions were ideal. An early Singapore goal within the first few minutes of the start of the first half failed to dampen the Malaysian energy levels and game. The ladies fought on, and the remainder of the game was thrilling with the Malaysians attacking, and Singapore conceding corners, breaching offside and generally being frustrated in their offensive. Time, however, was not on the Malaysians’ side, with the final score remaining 1–0 to our Singaporean counterparts.
As usual, the most heartwarming of all were the spirits of the supporters, cheerfully waving their Malaysian flags; and the team’s coach, to whom the team is forever indebted. A special note goes to the team’s goalkeeper, Debbie Wong, stoic and calm in the face of a serious injury. She will be back. The coming season kicks off in August 2019, and with it will come new faces and matches, renewed fervour and an ever larger drive to deliver.
