The Bar Council Small Firms Committee organised a talk entitled “Goods and Services Tax, Tax Audit and Investigation” at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, Bar Council on 12 May 2014 (Monday).
The talk covered the following areas:
(1) Changes in human resources;
(2) Changes in company;
(3) Changes in individuals;
(4) Real Property Gains Tax (“RPGT”);
(5) Goods and Services Tax (“GST”); and
(6) Tax audit and investigation.
The speakers for the three–hour talk were Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu and Chong Kean Huat.
Datuk Harjit Singh Sidhu is a regular speaker at tax seminars organised by public companies and has conducted seminars on taxation in many countries. At present, he is extensively involved in GST–related seminars and implementation of GST for government–linked companies (“GLCs”), public companies, and small and medium enterprises (“SMEs”). He is the President and Trustee of the Malaysian Sikh Professional and Business Trust.
Chong Kean Huat is a Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”). He has considerable experience in the audit and tax professions, having provided business advisory services to an extensive range of clients from public listed and multinational companies, to SMEs. He is involved in academic development by lecturing in local and Australian universities and was formerly an independent director for one of the listed companies in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now known as Bursa Malaysia). He was also one of the speakers for the Directors Training Program conducted by Companies Commission of Malaysia.
Both speakers are associate members of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia and licensed tax agents with the Malaysian Ministry of Finance.
The participants were actively engaged with the speakers and raised many queries which helped them better understand the GST and other related topics. Based on the participants’ feedback, the talk was beneficial.
