Submission of Joint Memorandum on Reform of Aboriginal Peoples Act 1954 and Orang Asli Policy and Administration, to the Minister in Charge of National Unity and Social Wellbeing (27 June 2019)

On 27 June 2019, representatives from the Bar Council and Pusat Komas met with YB Senator Tuan Waytha Moorthy a/l Ponnusamy, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of National Unity and Social Wellbeing ("Perpaduan Nasional dan Kesejahteraan Sosial"), to discuss the continued relevance of the Aboriginal Peoples Act 1954 in terms of Orang Asli rights, and the wide powers that the legislation confers on the State, in respect of the Orang Asli.

During the meeting, the Bar Council and Pusat Komas representatives officially submitted a joint memorandum to the Minister, entitled "Joint Memorandum on the Reform of the Aboriginal Peoples Act 1954 and Orang Asli Policy and Administration — Towards Better Orang Asli Self–Determination".
