The Bar Council Child Rights Committee (“CRC”) organised the first workshop in the CRC Talks series on 11 July 2018, entitled “The Child in the Malaysian Criminal Justice System”. This series of workshops aim to promote dialogue, raise awareness and educate Members of the Bar as well as the public, on the various issues affecting children.
The three–hour workshop carried two CPD points and was held at the Bar Council Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium. It was attended by 30 participants comprising Members of the Bar, pupils in chambers, and non–Members.

The speaker was Paul Linus Andrews,
Head of Centre for Commercial Law and Justice of Sunway
University. He addressed the following key areas in his
presentation:
(1) Understanding the underlying philosophical and theoretical approaches in dealing with the rights of children in conflict with the law;(2) Understanding the issues and challenges in implementing the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in Malaysia;(3) Understanding global trends and issues involving children in conflict with the law; and(4) Understanding the approaches and challenges in interviewing children.
Paul Linus Andrews was engaging and garnered the attention of the audience through his interactive presentation, and the audience undoubtedly gained new perspectives on this issue. The participants also interacted with the speaker, all of which made this workshop an interesting and lively one.
