KUALA LUMPUR: No eyewitness has come forward to help in determining the
authenticity of a video clip purportedly showing a senior lawyer brokering the
appointment of judges.
For now, the three-man panel headed by former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri
Haidar Mohd Noor, who is looking into the clip’s authenticity, could only rely
on expert opinion.
The panel has received reports from the Anti-Corruption Agency and the digital
forensics expertise of Cyber Security Sdn Bhd.
“Time is short and we have to assess the situation since we don’t intend to
extend the deadline (Nov 9 for the panel to report its findings to the
Government),” Haidar said when asked if the panel would still consider
eyewitness reports.
“If the witnesses are sincere, they would have come forward,” he said after
meeting ACA deputy director-general (operations) Abu Kassim Mohamed and Cyber
Security digital forensics head Aswami Fadhillah Mohd Ariffin yesterday.
He also met Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and the
Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.
“We did not call the police to come but they said they wanted to give us
co-operation but we told them it was not necessary,” said Haidar.
On whether the video is authentic, he said he could not say anything without
reporting to the Government first.
Haidar evaded questions on whether enough evidence had been gathered.
In Petaling Jaya, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the
Government would decide on the next course of action once it received a report
from the panel.
