THE Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has extended the objection period deadline
for the PJ Local Draft Plan 2 (RTPJ2) to Jan 28 next year.
The draft plans posted at four venues – the MBPJ headquarters at Jalan Yong
Shook Lin, the MBPJ Landscape Department building in Kelana Jaya, the Umno
office in PJS2 and the PKNS office in Kota Damansara – will be on display until
Jan 28.
However, there will be no more briefing sessions as requested by residents of
Taman Medan, Seri Setia and Bukit Gasing.
Petaling Permai flats Residents Association secretary Sihit Kadri had requested
for another session because many association representatives were not present at
the Dec 22 Taman Medan briefing due to lack of publicity.
Commenting on the questions raised by residents on why they were not consulted
prior to the drafting of the plans, MBPJ town planning department director
Sharipah Marhani Syed Ali said that there was an early consultation with the
residents in 2003.
“Maybe the residents who raised the questions now were not aware of the
consultation we did back then,” Sharipah said.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said the plans were only a draft and
the residents had another month to submit their objections and suggestions.
He said the MBPJ would hold another meeting with them after the Jan 28
deadline.Taman Mayang Jaya residents association chairman Liew Wei Beng wants
the council to show evidence of notices given out for the RTPJ2 early
consultation and attendance list of residents.
“Some of us were around even when the RTPJ1 was drafted but we're not aware that
there was an early consultation session with residents for the RTPJ2,” Liew
said.
All-Petaling Jaya Pro-Action Committee (Appac) committee member Mohamad Umar
Peer Mohamad said the same issue had been raised when the RTPJ1 was drafted but
the MBPJ still failed to take into consideration the residents' suggestions and
comments when drafting the RTPJ2.
“Ideally, what the residents want is to be consulted at the planning stage, not
later when only small changes are considered and the major portions of the plans
pushed through,” Appac pro tem president Edward Lee said.
On another issue, councillor Krishnan Narayana Redy said that the Sony flyover
(as it is commonly referred to because of its location next to what was
previously the Sony building) in Lebuh Bandar Utama should be completed without
any more delay.
The project is being delayed because Syabas (Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn
Bhd) has yet to carry out pipe replacement and connection works.
Roslan pushed for Syabas and the development and maintenance department to
complete the project by the end of January.
On the sloppy road patching on Jalan Datuk Abu Bakar (Jln 16/1) and Jalan
Universiti, MBPJ maintenance department assistant director Ismail Shafie said
companies that dug up roads to lay cables or pipes were required to mill and
pave the road from kerb to kerb – not merely patching up the dug-up area –
within a month of the completion of their work. .
He said they would take action against utility companies that failed to do so.
