KULIM, Feb 09: Selvamani Narayanasamy, 49, the woman lawyer who was seriously hurt after being slashed on Tuesday in her office located at Jalan Tunku Asaad here has died.
She passed away about 11.45 this morning, according to the Kedah/Perlis State Bar Representative to the Bar Council, Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera.
Vajeer said Selvamani succumbed to her injuries without regaining consciousness.
According to a New Straits Times report today, Selvamani had also lost four fingers on her left hand apart from the deep wounds behind her head.
She underwent a six-hour operation on Tuesday at Strand Specialist Hospital in Sungai Petani to stitch wounds behind her head and re-attach her severed right thumb. The report said the doctors, however, could not do anything about four fingers on her left hand which were severed.
On Tuesday, two men wearing full-face helmets barged into her office and started slashing her with a parang and an axe. Her nephew was also injured when he went to her aid.
Selvamani was called to the Bar on 11 April 1999, and is the wife of lawyer Balabedha Ramaloo, 56.
The Malaysian Bar extend out deepest condolences to Balabedha Ramaloo and family.
