KUALA LUMPUR: A retired Federal Court Judge of Malaysia and a
member of the Malaysian Bar, Dato' Haji Abu Mansor bin Ali, aged 72, passed away
at 6pm this evening.
Members of the Judiciary, the Bar and the public may pay
their last respects at No 32665 Jalan Satu, Taman Selayang Baru, 68100 Batu Caves
before proceeding to Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery at 10.30am tomorrow April 3.
He is survived by his wife, To' Puan Faridah Mansor, his son and daughter-in-law
and a grandson.
Dato' Haji Abu Mansor had a distinguished career with the public legal service
and the judiciary for more than 37 years prior to joining the legal practice.
Having been called to the English Bar (Barrister-at-Law at Lincoln's Inn) in
1963, he began his career as a cadet magistrate and became the Circuit
Magistrate and subsequently the President of the Sessions Court. He then served
public legal service as the Deputy Public Prosecutor in Penang, the State Legal
Adviser for the states of Penang, Terengganu and Selangor. While still in the
service of Federal Government, he was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1981, at
the same time he was the Head of Advisory Division and Civil Division of the
Attorney General's Chambers.
In 1984, he was elevated to be a High Court Judge (Borneo and Malaya) and
subsequently as a Judge of the Court of Appeal in 1994. In May 1999, he was
elevated to the Federal Court.
After his retirement in 2001, he joined the firm Azlan & Loh as a partner and
subsequently, he became a consultant of Messrs CW Loh & Associates.
Dato' Haji Abu Mansor was also registered on the Panel of Arbitrators for
domestic and international cases with the Regional Centre for Arbitration Kuala
Lumpur and a Commissioner for Oaths.
In 2007, he was appointed as a member of the Kuala Lumpur War
Crimes Tribunal.
The Malaysian Bar extends our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
