KUALA LUMPUR: Former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Anuar Zainal Abidin died on
Sunday after having breathing difficulties. He was 76.
Anuar was admitted to Universiti Hospital early Saturday morning and passed away
at 7.10pm Sunday.
He has been battling skin cancer for over a year.
He leaves behind wife Puan Sri Azimah Ali, 72, two children Azuar and Azmi and
two grandchildren Shahiran Saffian, four, and Ahmad Shahiman Ahmad Fairuz, one
month old.
Azimah and Azmi were by Anuar's side when he died. The burial will be held at
the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery at noon Monday.
Azmi said his father underwent surgery in December 2006, adding that the cancer
went into remission.
Anuar was a prominent judge and well known for his wit and humour.
In 1999, Anuar chaired a three–man commission that was established to
investigate the injuries sustained by former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Anwar Ibrahim, while in police custody.
