TAIPING: On the 26th of April 2008, the Malaysian Bar Hash House Harriers and
Harriettes (MBH4) organised a Hash Run in Taiping, Perak with the theme
‘FREETHEM’ in light of the Bar’s tireless efforts to call for the abolition of
ISA and the release of all detainees.
This event was held at Taiping Lake Garden Esplanade and commenced at 5.30pm
where the participants ran more than 7 km around the park. The run ended at
about 7.00pm.
The run was a success despite calls by some quarters to boycott the event.
Participants mainly comprised of members of the Bar including representatives
from the Human Rights Committee and Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA. Dedicated members of
the public who are part of the Hash series also took part. The Special Branch
was ever–present to document the run.
The event also witnessed the participation of Yee Seu Kai, ADUN for Pokok Assam,
who is a member of the Bar. He flagged off the run, and pledged to work
hand–in–hand with all of us in efforts to call for the release of all ISA
detainees.
The Joint–Master of Malaysian Bar Hash, N. Krishna Moorthy announced that the
next run is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur where all Malaysians are
invited to participate and show their continued support to end the draconian ISA
which perpetuates the denial of justice and violation of human rights.
