HRC and ConstiLC post–match team photo
After weeks of trash–talking, the much anticipated futsal match between the Constitutional Law Committee (ConstiLC) and Human Rights Committee (HRC) took place on Friday, November 6, 2009. Played at “The Club”, Bandar Utama, it was the debut match for our newly–formed ConstiLC team who turned out in force – cheerleaders and all. Our new team kit was unveiled – a smart white jersey sponsored by the public service provider, “MyConstitution/PerlembagaanKu” with its colourful logo emblazoned on it.
In true Malaysian fashion, the match scheduled for 7pm, eventually kicked off an hour later, to be played over a period of 4 quarters, with each quarter of 14 minutes. The usual 5–a–side futsal rules applied with a minimum of 1 woman playing for each team.

The 1st and 2nd quarters were fairly even–sided affairs with both sides playing good attacking football. We enjoyed more possession with some fluid passing, however the HRC side remained dangerous with constant counter–attacks. The match remained at 0–0 at the end of the 1st and 2nd quarters thanks to some excellent goalkeeping on both sides of the pitch.
The tempo was raised in the 3rd quarter. ConstiLC opened the scoring with Samuel Leong heading in an angled floater from a goalkick by our keeper, Pradeep Singh. HRC came back strongly forcing us deep into our own half. Our defence sat too far back. HRC was practically camping on our side of the pitch! Dipendra Harshad Rai eventually managed to find his way around our defence and score with a well–placed shot, to level up the game, for HRC.
The final quarter saw both teams going all out with some fast–paced football and crunching tackles. Firdaus Husni came close to scoring for us early on but was denied by the keeper. Both sides continued attacking furiously. However, ConstiLC managed to put in 3 consecutive goals late into the quarter with the HRC team tiring fast. Leong Yeng Kong was on–form to score 2, with Azmi Sharom’s shoelaces guiding in the final goal.
The score was 4–1 to us at the final whistle – a thoroughly enjoyable competitive match.
Post game gloating/sulking proceeded over drinks at The Club’s cafe with promises of a re–match in the future. Thank you to all who played, and cheered!
(N/B: Cheerleading auditions will be held in the near future. Stay tuned!)
