KUALA LUMPUR: The Bar Council will hold a half–day forum on the social contract
at its premises on Saturday.
Council secretary Lim Chee Wee said lawyer Tommy Thomas,
political scientist Dr Farish Noor and academicians Dr Mavis Puthucheary and Dr
Kua Kia Soong would be at the discussion.
He said the forum was necessary as there had been discussion of late on the
existence, nature and implication of Malaysia's social contract as enshrined in
the Federal Constitution.
"For example, is Article 153 of the Constitution on Malay privileges in line
with the social contract idea?"
Lim said the forum would allow for an engaging discourse as the speakers would
share their views on the definition of social contract.
Due to limited places, registration will be on a first–come–first–served basis.
