After heading southwards to Johor Bahru on 2 October 2009, the staff from the Membership Department of the Bar Council moved on to the states of Penang and Terengganu to conduct the Sijil Annual Workshop in the northern and eastern regions.
The Workshops in Penang and Terengganu took place at the Penang Bar Room on 9 October 2009 and at the Felda Residence, Terengganu on 26 October 2009, respectively. Incidentally, all the participants of the Terengganu Workshop were Members of the Bar and the response was overwhelming.
Both Workshops started at 3.00 pm with a general overview of the Sijil Annual Form, Practising Certificate Form and other relevant documents, and the payments that need to be submitted to the Bar Council Secretariat to ensure the applications are processed expeditiously.
The Membership Department went on to discuss the preparation of Statutory Declarations and also highlighted the common errors made pertaining to the format of the accountant’s report by showing the different scenarios in accordance with the applicant’s position in the firm.
The participants raised many questions from several angles during the Question–and–Answer session. The Workshop continued with a practical session where participants were asked to draft Statutory Declarations in the context of specific scenarios. The Membership Department representatives guided the participants throughout the Workshops that ended at about 5.45 pm.
The Penang and Terengganu sessions conclude the series of Sijil Annual Workshops for this year. We thank the Members, and the various State Bar Committees staff members for their assistance. Look out for us again next year!
