Nazri AzizJudiciary not facing crisis, says Nazri

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: Lawyers who participated in the "Walk for Justice" should join the opposition party, so that I know how to handle them, said Minister in the Prime Minister Department Nazri Aziz.

"Those who participated in the "Walk for Justice", their brains are like opposition party. It is better for them to register as members of opposition party. I will be more delighted if they (Bar Council) register as an Opposition party. So that I know how to handle them," he told Sin Chew Daily when contacted today.

"I will ignore them as if they are non-governmental organizations (NGOS)," he continued.

"I will ignore them as if they are non-governmental organizations (NGOS)," he continued.

Nazri said the Bar Council does not need to organize the "Walk for Justice" because the council could contact or meet him at first.

"They can meet me (for submission of memorandum) after calling me. But why don't they call me?" he asked.

He said the Bar Council should investigate the authenticity of the video clip before they organized the "Walk for Justice".

Commenting on the Bar’s demand that the Government set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry immediately to investigate the above issue, he said :"I object to it. We do not need to set up a Royal Commission."

A total of 1,500 lawyers gathered at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya to march to the Prime Minister’s office.

The peaceful ‘Walk for Justice’ organised by the Bar Council was to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Department calling for the establishment of a royal commission of inquiry to stem the slide in the judiciary. (Sin Chew Daily)

He is but CJ's minister
written by Tan Choon Heong, 26 September, 2007 at 09:08 pm

As usual, he spews garbage. I for one will be delighted if I don't have to deal with him again. He has no interest in preserving the integrity of the judiciary. After all, he is the CJ's minister.

The Bar should not have anything to do with him
written by Damian Yeo Shen Li, 26 September, 2007 at 09:29 pm

I am disgusted with Nazri. I think he is the most damn arrogant person on earth right now. He branded us as "brains are like opposition party". Maybe Nazri has brains like government [deleted by MBW] with a denial syndrome.

I think the Bar should not have anything to do with him. The Malaysian Bar and all Malaysians have the right to call the government for the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry. Like Amer says, "What do we want?" We all cry out with one voice, "JUSTICE...."

Can you handle the truth?
written by Desmond Ho Chee Cheong, 26 September, 2007 at 09:39 pm

He has just declared that he is a minister for ONE political party as he knows how to handle opposition parties. Now that we are not a political party, how do you intend to handle us? And pray do tell us how you "handle" opposition parties! We would be more than delighted to know.

Don't Be Emotional
written by Mohd Irwan Bin Mohd Mubarak, 26 September, 2007 at 09:42 pm

With due respect to you, I believed that you should appreciate the knowledge during your varsity time with regards to the constitutional issue. Everybody including lawyer enjoys freedom of movement and speech. So my honourable minister you should respond to this highlighted issue (video tape, walk for justice etc) administratively and legally. BUT PLEASE DON'T BE TOO EMOTIONAL because it shows your immaturity especially as a minister.

Mohd Irwan Bin Mohd Mubarak

Why should the Bar call him? Who is him???
written by Shim Wai Loon, 26 September, 2007 at 10:00 pm

Arguing with brainless people is a waste of time, so that's the reason why our Bar did not even bother to make any CALLs. He may think the CJ is subject to him, but the Bar is definitely not.

Maybe the minister is too jealous of the brains of the opposition because he himself is short of one, and so for the government smilies/smiley.gif

Maybe our friend is feeling hurt

I will take that statement as a compliment. If my brain is like the opposition, so be it! At least this brain of mine can comprehend what separation of power is. Nazri doesn't even know. Perhaps, we should dig out our first year tutorial notes during our law school on separation of powers and send it to him with our compliments!

He can't even debate well with the likes of Lim Kit Siang and now he is bragging that he knows how to handle the opposition. Come to think about it. Is he saying that at this juncture, he doesn't know how to handle us?

"He said the Bar Council should investigate the authenticity of the video clip before they organized the "Walk for Justice"."

This comment from him shows that he does't even know that the purpose of the "Walk for Justice" is for the purpose of inquiry into the authenticity of the clip. It is a good thing we didn't forward the Memorandum to him!

"I object to it. We do not need to set up a Royal Commission."

A Minister of Law objecting to it without furnishing his grounds of objection. Interesting. The question is "Why do you fear the setting up of a Royal Commission?"

"They can meet me (for submission of memorandum) after calling me. But why don't they call me?" he asked."

I think our friend here is hurt! Sometimes feeling of rejection can be quite painful.

How do you handle us then?
written by Ng Chung Yee, 26 September, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Utterly regrettable that Nazri is a minister, more regrettable that he is the de facto law minister and most regrettable is that he is a lawyer by training.

Mr. Minister seem to have an idea of how to handle a 'defiant' bar, do share with us.

He should be ashamed...
written by Abdul Fareed Bin Abdul Gafoor, 26 September, 2007 at 10:47 pm

I think Nazri has passed his shelf life, both as a Minister and as a former lawyer. Arrogance has taken over his own brains.

To Nazri...please implore into your law books again and try to understand what does Separation of Powers mean. Perhaps you can look into a subject which is called Constitutional Law, it might be there as a topic.

You should be ashamed to call yourself the Senior Judge's Minister. You cannot fool everyone everytime.

Abdul Fareed Bin Abdul Gafoor

Dear Mr Nazri , you are so ...
written by Ng Si Seng, 27 September, 2007 at 12:02 am

Dear Mr Nazri,

I think I need to give you a simple illustration to help you understand the situation since you are so ...

Example: Our top badminton player finally wins the Olympic Gold Medal.
Rakyat's Reaction: Cheering, clapping and chanting "Malaysia Boleh".
Minister's Reaction: "You guys, just give the winner the medal and stop yelling like children! Why should you stoop so low?"

Do you think it makes sense? Go read freedom of expression. (I feel dumb having to advise you to do this.)

Why ignore NGOs?
written by Andrew Khoo Chin Hock, 27 September, 2007 at 01:50 am

Why would any right thinking minister of government ignore the views of non-governmental organisations in general? Does he not think that civil society has a role to play in a democratic society? Or does he not believe in a democratic society? Which could then explain why he does not believe that an independent and transparent process of appointment and promotion of judges is necessary.

Be afraid... be very afraid!
written by Sreekant Pillai, 27 September, 2007 at 02:18 am

Well Mr.Nazri.... finally we know that the govt cant handle the truth. Hand over the memorandum to you and then what? Sweep it under the carpet like every other issue that crops up? You must understand that this is not a political issue... this is an issue which affects the whole country. Try and sweep it under the carpet and it just gets worse because the Bar is going to be on your back!

Be afraid for this is just the beginning!

Have a Lolly Mr Minister
written by Vicknaraj Thanarajah, 27 September, 2007 at 07:18 am

Perhaps the poor Minister, feels that no one is paying attention to him. Since the need to gain spot light in the press is important especially since the elections are near. What a mongrel attitude. Such disgraceful behavior, especially for a legally trained Minister. Its disgusting what politician resort to, for attention.

Our very own Bush
written by Puteri Shehnaz Majid , 27 September, 2007 at 09:46 am

Nazri is an absolute disgrace. Both as a lawyer and as a minister. He's like our Bush! The brainless comments that escape his trap speaks VOLUMES for his intelligence, integrity and credibility.

I have decided not to attend the Malaysian Law Conference for the sole reason that Nazri has been invited to give the closing speech. I'm sure I would benefit from the Conference, and I would have liked to attend - I could just walk out when he starts spewing his garbage - but I just couldn't reconcile the fact that his closing speech is scheduled to follow a session on the importance of the constitution! It just didn't make sense to me.

Anyway, his response to this whole episode - styled in his usual, inimitable brand of sickening arrogance - only serves to show that he feels threatened. I agree with what everyone here has said - he simply can't handle the truth and that is very obvious from his response. How can ANYONE CREDIBLY look at the video and say "no, I don't see a scandal. No problems at all"?! His reaction is absolutely telling!

Why didn't we call you?? Because unlike the CJ, we can carry our own. We don't need to go through you to advocate and call for a clean judiciary. Going through someone like you, "Minister", would have undermined our cause. It's not about protocol or bureaucracy, or feeding the insatiable appetite of your gargantuan ego, it's about something a whole lot bigger and more important than you. You are but a speck of hindrance in our quest for justice and in upholding the rule of law.

Absolutely shameless. A disappointing disgrace of the highest order.

Damnant quod non intellegunt
written by Siti Zabedah Kasim , 27 September, 2007 at 11:44 am

Simply put, they condemn what they do not understand.

Nazri, you have stercorem pro cerebro habes!! Claude os, aperi oculos! (Shut your mouth, open your eyes!). He speaks with an arrogance of a man who do not befit to be a minister. Is he there to speak of politics or justice eh? It sounds to me as if he is not talking as a Minister of Justice but somebody who is totally IMMATURE/UNBECOMING to serve the public as a public servant appointed to serve justice. Time to come down from your high horse Nazri.

Ut ameris Nazri, amabilis esto.

What type of Minister we have??
written by Ding Chu Teck, 27 September, 2007 at 04:16 pm

I just can't believe those words came from the mouth of a 'Yang BERHORMAT' Minister, especially one who was a lawyer himself. No wonder people say 'Malaysia Boleh'!

It's interesting to hear him said " their brains are like opposition party"; " I will ignore them if they are NGO"

Come on,... what's all these? You mean the NGO's don't have a place in Malaysia?

Hai, Dulu "Subversif";
Sekarang "pro-opposition",
Besok apa pula?

Make me sick...
written by Lim Yeeu Ren, 27 September, 2007 at 05:54 pm

"Lack of Attention" syndrome.

When he said the Bar Council does not need to organize the "Walk for Justice" because the council could contact or meet him at first. I quote "They can meet me (for submission of memorandum) after calling me. But why don't they call me?" he asked" screams that he is in charge of such matters but the Bar bypassed him.

However, he has failed miserably in his duties to handle such matters or anything related to it hence the need for the "Walk of Justice" to the PM's office. Ini angkara takut kena belasah dengan boss la ni.

I was unable to make it as I was discharged from the hospital last Saturday and am still recovering from my slipped disc condition. My wife made it though. Spoke to Edmund Bon last night, Wished I could have been there. You guys who attended the walk are great in my dictionary for braving yourselves to stand up what's right for the country & justice.

Anyway, back to our En Nazri, he made it sound as if it was a riot or something when the participants behaved in a civil manner. Comparing us and branding us opposition equals. BAH!!!!! Even if we are (which we are not), SO WHAT? At least the opposition stands up for the weak. The presence of FRU members, police & the locking up of the court was "pariah" like in nature. The person who ordered it must have been intimidated of fearful of the TRUTH!

Actually, Sreekant, I beg to differ, this is a very political issue as it involves the appointment of judges. Separation of Powers doesn't occur in its literal sense as the appointments are indirectly made by the government of the day. Further, YES it also involves the country so what needs to be done, has to be done.

At the end of the day, everyone will be blaming someone else & at the same time deny everything la.

The mere thought of it & what our En Nazri has said makes me sick. I think I better go have a beer to make myself better then come back to the issue later.

Carpe diem,

Lim Yeeu Ren

Who wants to make that call?
written by Edmund Richard Keat Soon Saw, 28 September, 2007 at 12:28 am

Because it would be a complete waste of money!

Does that answer your question Mr. Minister? If you wish, I am sure we can get a list of answers going for you since you are so confused as to why the Bar did not call you. Perhaps you should sponsor a prize for the best answer given.

I reckon the only call you deserve right now is one which asks you to remove your head from your backside before you next speak to the press as we are all getting tired of the crap which comes out of your mouth! Who wants to make that call?

Edmund Richard Keat Soon Saw
