KUALA LUMPUR: A lawyer and her administrative manager pleaded not guilty to committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) of RM3mil belonging to Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd.
Rosmaniza Osman, 34, and Rozalind Sakunthala Rajan, 47, were accused of committing the offence at the law firm of Messrs Ros & Associates in Wisma Selangor Dredging in Jalan Ampang here between March 9 and July 4 last year.
Rosmaniza, who is the owner of the law firm, and Rozalind were arrested on Tuesday. They appeared calm when a court interpreter read the charge to them at a sessions court yesterday.
The money was said to be for a construction project. The law firm was said to have acted as a stakeholder in a bid for a construction project here involving more than RM100mil.
Maju’s company director Muhamad Fuad Yon lodged a complaint on the matter on June 17 last year.
Judge Rosenani Abd Rahman set bail at RM250,000 in one surety for each accused and ordered both to surrender their passports to the court.
Rosmaniza, of Setapak, and Rozalind, of Mont Kiara, had not posted bail at press time.
Earlier, DPP Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud urged the court to set bail at RM3mil in two sureties.
However, defence counsel Mah Weng Kwai argued that bail should be reasonable as it was only to ensure their attendance to stand trial.
“Bail is not a form of penalty and not a process for a person to be prejudged as guilty (of an offence).”
He also urged the court to consider that both had co–operated with the police.
The judge set three days from July 24 for trial.
