KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Bar has welcomed the appointment of Datuk Zaid
Ibrahim as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department to look into judicial
reform.
Its president Ambiga Sreenevasan said: “We believe that he has, going by what he
has said in the past, the right vision to strengthen the administration of
justice.
“We have high expectations of him because he is our colleague from the Bar and
he would have an understanding of the problems faced by the profession and the
judiciary.”
Ambiga hoped that Zaid, the former Kota Baru MP, would immediately look into the
setting up of a judicial commission, something that the Bar has been asking for
years.
“We look forward to working together with him and we will give him our full
cooperation,” she added. – Bernama
