The Malaysian Bar records its deepest condolences on the passing of Tun Abdul Hamid b Haji Mohamad (“Tun Abdul Hamid”), former Chief Justice of Malaysia, who passed away on 19 February 2026, coinciding with 1 Ramadan 1447.
Tun Abdul Hamid served the Judiciary with distinction for decades. His tenure at the apex of the Federal Court marked the culmination of a judicial career defined by discipline, clarity of reasoning, and firm adherence to constitutional structure. His judgments remain studied for their precision and directness, reflecting a judge who believed that the law must be applied with rigour and without fear or favour.
Many in the legal community will remember his oft-repeated reminder to simply “buat kerja”. It was a phrase he used plainly, yet it carried weight. To him, institutions earned respect through steady and competent discharge of duty: judges must write their judgments; lawyers must prepare their cases. Each must perform their role with integrity. That insistence on professional discipline resonated then and continues to resonate today.
The legal community acknowledges the imprint he has made on Malaysia’s judicial landscape.
The Malaysian Bar extends its heartfelt sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
