Press Release | Malaysian Bar Sets Up Ad Hoc Parliament Liaison Committee to Strengthen Engagements on Law Reform 24 Jul 2025 9:41 am

The Malaysian Bar is proud to announce the establishment of the Bar Council Ad Hoc Parliament Liaison Committee (“AHPLC”) for the 2025/2026 term.  This Committee has been specially formed to engage with Parliamentarians and key stakeholders involved in the legislative process, with the primary aim of contributing to meaningful discussions on proposed laws, bills, and law reform initiatives that directly impact the rule of law and the administration of justice in Malaysia.

As part of our ongoing efforts, the Malaysian Bar has already undertaken significant engagements with leaders across the legislative spectrum.  On 13 June 2025, AHPLC held a productive meeting with Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Johari b Abdul, the Speaker (Yang di-Pertua) of the House of Representatives or Dewan Rakyat, to foster closer collaboration and to underscore the Malaysian Bar’s readiness to offer independent, non-partisan legal perspectives on legislative matters.

Additional initiatives are currently in progress and show encouraging prospects, particularly with regard to forthcoming meetings with Government representatives and the opposition party whip.  These efforts accentuate the Malaysian Bar’s unwavering commitment to engaging as a constructive and principled partner in the legislative process, without affiliation to any political interest.  The views expressed by the Malaysian Bar are, and shall remain, firmly rooted in the rule of law, constitutional principles, and public interest.

We invite all stakeholders — Government agencies, Members of Parliament, civil society, and the public — to engage with AHPLC on matters concerning legislative proposals or legal reforms.  For further information or to liaise with the Committee, please get in touch with the Malaysian Bar Secretariat at: council@malaysianbar.org.my.
