The Malaysian Bar is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our respected Bar Council member, Ravi Chandran Subash Chandran (“Ravi Chandran”), yesterday at approximately 2:00 pm.
Ravi Chandran served the legal profession with unwavering integrity, humility, and an uncompromising dedication to justice. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2003, and was the sole proprietor of SC Ravi & Associates. He served the Malaysian Bar with distinction and leadership, and contributed immensely to the profession through his many leadership roles, including the following:
(1) Sitting Council member and served on the Bar Council since 2021.
(2) Chairman of the Penang Bar Committee from 2021 to 2023, and Penang Bar Representative on the Bar Council from 2023 to 2025.
(3) Chairperson of the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Penang) from 2015 to 2021.
(4) He served Bar Council committees in various other capacities:

During my tenure as President of the Malaysian Bar, I trusted him to helm several committees, knowing that he would put his heart, energy, and full commitment into ensuring their success. He never once failed in that trust; instead, he consistently performed above expectations. I also sought his advice and wisdom from time to time, particularly on matters concerning developments in the country. His counsel was always thoughtful, measured and grounded in a deep understanding of justice and human dignity.
In 2021, Ravi Chandran was awarded an honorary certificate as a Legal Aid Champion in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of legal aid services by lawyers in Malaysia. This internal recognition, initiated by the Bar Council National Legal Aid Committee, is a reflection of his extraordinary dedication to advancing legal aid and access to justice long before he assumed leadership roles in the Bar Council.
Ravi Chandran’s efforts significantly strengthened the Malaysian Bar’s work in legal aid, criminal justice reform, and in expanding access to justice for marginalised communities. His work ethic, leadership and empathy have left an indelible mark on the Malaysian Bar and the communities we serve.
Members should take inspiration from the breadth of his contributions, his selfless service and his steadfast belief that the law is a tool for the improvement of society. His legacy exemplifies what it means to serve the profession beyond oneself.
The Malaysian Bar will greatly miss his wisdom, his voice and his presence at the table, knowing that the work he did played a pivotal role in continuing to shape the future of access to justice in Malaysia.
The Malaysian Bar extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find strength and peace in the legacy he leaves behind.
