Obituary: Yang Arif Dato' Vincent Ng 28 Aug 2009 7:01 pm

Kuala Lumpur, Fri: We regretfully inform the members of the Bar that retired Court of Appeal judge, Yang Arif Dato' Vincent Ng, passed away peacefully at about 11.30am today.

His Lordship Dato’ Vincent Ng was born on 27 October 1942 in Taiping, Perak and practised law in Ipoh after he had been called to the Malaysian Bar on 13 October 1965.  His Lordship was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya on 1 February 1992 and was promoted as a Judge of the High Court of Malaya in 1994.  In  2007, His Lordship was elevated as a Judge of the Court of Appeal before he retired in April 2009.

The book "Footprints of a Judge's journey through mother earth", comprising a collection of excerpts from judgments handed down by His Lordship, was launched by The Right Honourable Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria, Chief Judge of Malaya, on 17 August 2009.  Many other prominent personalities graced the occasion, including Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Yang Berhormat Datuk V K Liew, high court and appellate court judges, retired judges, registrars of the court, the Ambassador of the USA to Malaysia and senior lawyers.

Despite his health condition, His Lordship Dato’ Vincent  Ng  took the time to assist  the co–authors, Alex Chang Huey Wah,  Khoo Guan Huat and Lim Hui Ling, in completing production of the said book.  A fundraising initiative in conjunction with the book launch successfully raised more than RM 100,000 in cash and RM 20,000 in kind for the “Mr Justice Dato’ Vincent Ng Scholarship Fund”, which is managed by the Pudu Rotary Club.  His Lordship was motivated to carry out the project on humanitarian reasons and as a contribution to society.

The Malaysian Bar extends its deepest condolences to His Lordship’s family and loved ones.

Members of the Bar may pay their last respects at St. Ignatius Church, No. 2, Jalan SS 25/23, Taman Plaza, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Please contact His Lordship’s family members at 019–222 8883 for details of the wake and/or memorial service.
