It is with great sadness that we record that Datuk N Chandran, who was a consultant of Messrs Kamil Hashim Raj & Lim in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, passed away on 4 July 2026.
Datuk N Chandran was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1968, and was among the 50 most senior Members of the Malaysian Bar for the past several years.
The Malaysian Bar extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his family members and loved ones.

The Malaysian legal fraternity celebrates the legacy of Datuk N. Chandran, a distinguished and highly respected figure in the Malaysian legal profession, whose remarkable career spanned nearly six decades. Called to the Bar of England & Wales (Inner Temple) in 1967 and admitted to the Malaysian Bar in February 1968, he became one of the Bar’s most senior members, dedicating his life to the noble calling of the law.
Over the course of his remarkable career, he brought his formidable legal intellect to some of Malaysia's most distinguished firms, including Presgrave & Matthews, Adnan Sundra & Low, and Albar & Partners, before serving as Consultant at Kamil Hashim Raj & Lim. As an empanelled Arbitrator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), his expertise extended beyond Malaysia to complex international commercial arbitrations, earning him the respect of clients and peers alike.
Datuk N. Chandran's enduring contribution to Malaysian jurisprudence is reflected in landmark appellate decisions, which helped shape legal doctrine and influence legislative development. Beyond his practice, he was a dedicated educator and mentor, serving as an Adjunct Professor at Taylor's University School of Law and Governance, a Bar Council advocacy trainer, and a prolific contributor to legal scholarship. Through his teaching, advocacy, and writing, he inspired and guided generations of lawyers.
Conferred the title of Datuk in 2003 by the Governor of Malacca and recognised as a leading individual in dispute resolution by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific and Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific, his professional excellence was matched by his humility and unwavering commitment to the law. His early years at the Bar were shaped by the mentorship of legal luminaries such as Tan Sri Eusoffe Abdoolcader and YM Raja Aziz Addruse, influences that remained evident throughout his distinguished career.
Datuk N. Chandran lived the law not merely as a profession, but as a lifelong mission. He exemplified the highest ideals of justice, integrity, and service, leaving an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of the legal profession.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved family, colleagues, former pupils, students, friends, and the legal community he served with unwavering wisdom, grace, and integrity.
