Agenda and Motions for the 70th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (19 Mar 2016)
We refer to Circular No 050/2016 dated 25 Feb 2016, giving notice of the 70th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (“AGM”) to be held as follows:
Date: 19 Mar 2016 (Saturday)
Time: 10:00 am
Venue: Grand Ballroom, Level 1, Convention Centre, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Corner of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur
The agenda for the AGM is as follows:
(1) To consider and, if approved, to adopt the minutes of the 69th AGM held on 14 Mar 2015;
(2) To discuss matters arising from the 69th AGM (please refer to the AGM Update Sheet on pages 101 to 107 of the
2015/2016 Annual Report
);(3) To consider and, if approved, to adopt the minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (“EGM”) held on 12 Sept 2015;
(4) To discuss matters arising from the EGM;
(5) To consider the President’s Report and committees’ reports re: Activities of the Malaysian Bar for the year 2015/2016;
(6) To consider and, if approved, to adopt the Audited Accounts of the Malaysian Bar for the year ended 31 Dec 2015;
(7) To consider the following
motions proposed in accordance with section 64(6) of the Legal Profession Act 1976:(7.1) “Motion Regarding the Continuing Professional Development Scheme”, proposed by Steven Thiruneelakandan (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 11 Mar 2016 (pages 3 to 6 of theattached bundle of motions);(7.2) “Motion on the Attorney General, Public Prosecutor and Improvement of Public Perspective of Administration of Justice in Malaysia”, proposed by Charles Hector Fernandez, Francis Pereira and Shanmugam a/l Ramasamy, dated 8 Mar 2016 (pages 7 to 15 of theattached bundle of motions);(7.3) “Motion to Amend Order 6, First Schedule and Third Schedule of the Solicitors’ Remuneration Order 2005”, proposed by Steven Thiruneelakandan (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 11 Mar 2016 (pages 16 to 21 of theattached bundle of motions);(7.4) “Motion on the National Security Council Bill”, proposed by Andrew Khoo Chin Hock, dated 11 Mar 2016 (pages 22 to 24 of theattached bundle of motions); and(7.5) “Motion on the Internet Censorship, Malaysian Insider and Freedom of Expression and Opinion”, proposed by Charles Hector Fernandez, dated 10 Mar 2016 (pages 25 to 31 of theattached bundle of motions); and
(8) General.

to download the 2015/2016 Annual Report.In accordance with section 64(4) of the Legal Profession Act 1976, the quorum for the AGM shall be 500 Members of the Malaysian Bar.
Members who attend the AGM will receive a print copy of the 2015/2016 Annual Report on a first–come, first–served basis. Please note that only limited print copies of the 2015/2016 Annual Report have been produced.
Members are urged to make every effort to attend the AGM so that issues affecting the profession may be effectively discussed by as many Members as possible.

Notes
(1) Members are kindly requested to make every effort to attend the meeting punctually to ensure a quorum of 500. If the quorum is not present by 11:00 am, the AGM shall be adjourned to 11:15 am on the same day and at the same venue.(2) Registration counters will open from 8:30 am. Light refreshments will be served.(3) All Members and pupils in chambers will be required to produce their National Registration Identity Card (“NRIC”) or driver’s licence in order to register their attendance for the AGM.(4) All Members and pupils in chambers shall, upon registering their names, wear the designated wristbands for the purpose of admission.(5) Pupils in chambers may attend but shall not vote, and shall be seated only at the area(s) designated for them.(6) Under the Continuing Professional Development (“CPD”) Scheme, Members and pupils in chambers will earn one CPD point for attending the AGM.(7) For information on preferential hotel corporate rates secured by the Bar Council, please refer to the current list, which can be downloaded from the scroll box located on the top right–hand section of the Malaysian Bar website, atwww.malaysianbar.org.my.
