To Members of the Bar and pupils in chambers
We refer to Circular No 042/2020 entitled “74th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (14 March 2020)” dated 20 Feb 2020, and Circular No 052/2020 entitled “Agenda and Motions for the 74th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (14 March 2020)” dated 9 Mar 2020.
In light of the growing concerns over the COVID-19 situation, the Bar Council, at an emergency meeting held today, has taken the decision to withdraw the seven motions that it had intended to table. The seven motions are as follows:
(1) “Motion Regarding the Continuing Professional Development Scheme”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020;
(2) “Motion Regarding the Provision of Legal Research Products from CLJ Legal Network Sdn Bhd”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020;
(3) “Motion Regarding the Provision of Legal Research Products from The Digital Library Sdn Bhd”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020;
(4) “Motion Regarding the Provision of Legal Research Products from Thomson Reuters Asia Sdn Bhd”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020;
(5) “Motion Regarding the Provision of Legal Research Products from Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020;
(6) “Motion Regarding the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples of the Borneo States”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020; and
(7) “Motion Regarding Unresolved Cases Shrouded in Mystery”, proposed by Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor (Chairman, Bar Council), on behalf of the Bar Council, dated 6 March 2020.
The Bar Council will consider convening an Extraordinary General Meeting (“EGM”) to consider the above-mentioned motions and other motions, when the situation improves.
