On 27 Apr 2019 in Singapore, chess was played at an exhibition level, as a non–competitive game for the third year running.
This year’s team comprised four junior lawyers and a pupil in chambers. Compared to the 2018 team of two ex–national players and two former state players, this is a relatively junior team.
Our young team nevertheless battled valiantly against the stronger Singapore team of a few national and titled players, led by Candidate Master Malcolm Tan.
The final result is as follows:
Friendly Blitz: Singapore 7 Malaysia 3
Rapid Round 1: Singapore 4 Malaysia 1
Rapid Round 2: Singapore 5 Malaysia 0
Overall, it was good effort by our players who played in the spirit of friendship and good sportsmanship. We look forward to chess being played more actively within the Malaysian legal community.
We thank the Co–Chairpersons, Co–Deputy Chairpersons, and members of the Bar Council Sports Committee 2018/2019; and Shagela Nair and Florence Laway for their invaluable support and guidance.
