The Bar Council Ad Hoc Committee on Personal Data Protection organised a seminar entitled “Seminar on Personal Data Protection Act 2010: Compliance by Law Firms” at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, Bar Council on 21 Apr 2014 (Monday). The two–hour session, conducted by Chew Kherk Ying and Deepak C Pillai, was attended by 150 Members of the Bar.
Chew Kherk Ying is the Managing Partner of Messrs Wong & Partners and heads the firm’s Intellectual Property and Dispute Resolution groups.
Deepak C Pillai is a Partner of Messrs Haryati Deepak, a boutique practice focusing on information technology, intellectual property and personal data protection.
The objective of this seminar was to highlight the requirements of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (“PDPA”), and the obligations of law firms in complying with the PDPA. In the seminar, the speakers discussed the types of PDPA notices to be issued and common issues that law firms may face in complying with the PDPA, including key areas of concern and ongoing maintenance.
Based on the feedback received, it was a successful event and the participants had benefited from attending this seminar.
