Bar President Yeo Yang Poh launching this website while the IT & Cyberlaws Committee Chairman Lim Chee Wee looks on.
Welcome to the just revamped Malaysian Bar Portal. This website is intended to be a primary source of information on the Malaysian Bar and the Malaysian legal profession.
Its role is to provide a central reference point to the activities of the Malaysian Bar and the Malaysian legal profession, as well as to provide relevant information to the public on the Malaysian legal profession, the role and function of the Bar Council and its office bearers, the rulings of the Bar Council, the activities of its various committees and the press statements issued by the Bar Council on current and topical legal issues.
It is hoped that Malaysian Bar members will use this portal as often as possible to meet their current and future needs as this will also help the Malaysian Bar save costs from resorting to the conventional way of disseminating information to our members. For example, currently there are only 4,200 subscribers out of 12,000 members who are subscribed to the Bar e-mailing list. These subscribers are mainly member firms, but members can also subscribe to the list with their personal email addresses in order to make the dissemination of information even more effective. Those who like their email addresses to be added to the e-mailing list may do so by faxing your email address under your firm's letterhead to the Bar Secretariat.
As some information has to be kept out from the public domain, Malaysian Bar members are requested to apply for an account to access the registered sections of this website. As regards the Legal Directory, Malaysian Bar members are urged to help the Secretariat to update their records by faxing any amendments under their firms' letterheads to the Bar Secretariat. In fact, it makes good business sense for our members to update their records from time to time.
The features of this website will continue to be built upon and improved from time to time with the utimate aim of making this website the meeting point between the Bar Council and its members, as well as with the public. The Bar Council has always recognised its societal role and welcomes the views and participation of the public.
We do not expect any major teething problems, but if there is any, please do inform the Malaysian Bar Webmaster at webmaster@malaysianbar.org.my.
