On 24 Aug 2010, Bar Council (BC) together with the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA), held a dialogue with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). The meeting was chaired by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Jalilah Baba, the Director General of MIDA. Sundra Rajoo, Director of KLRCA and his management team represented KLRCA. Representing BC were Ragunath Kesavan (President), Lim Chee Wee (Vice-President), George Varughese (Secretary), Rajen Devaraj (Chief Executive Officer) and Chiam Ter Ping (Officer). The purpose of the dialogue was to discuss how the three parties could work together to promote Malaysia as the preferred investment destination for foreign investors. Various opinions and practical ideas were exchanged during the dialogue. BC emphasised that Malaysian lawyers have the expertise and know-how to help investors in setting up their business here and this should be made known to potential investors when MIDA officials promote the country overseas.
KLRCA reported that it has been actively promoting Kuala Lumpur as a centre for arbitration in the region and that it had succeeded in winning the bid to host the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) Conference in 2011. All parties agreed that BC and KLRCA, in particular, have important parts to play to promote Malaysia as an attractive investment destination.
