The department provides the administrative support to the Solicitors Remuneration Enforcement Committee which has been assigned to the task of enforcing the Solicitors’ Remuneration Order. Currently, the department has one executive officer namely Emily Lee and 2 administrative assistants. Teena Mathew from the Membership department will join the SRO Enforcement department as its second executive officer at the end of this month. "This shows that the Bar Council is attaching great importance to enforcing the SRO", said Tony Woon who is the Chairman of the SRO Enforcement Committee. Woon added that this was necessary as members had voted overwhelmingly in favour of the no-discount rule at the October 22 annual general meeting.
The Committee has also decided that requisite action be taken against those firms who have yet to submit the requested returns and the department is currently attending to it. At the time of writing this report, the Committee has received approximately a total of 136 complaints, both verbal and written. Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
