The half–day workshop on “Billing and Collections”, which began at 2:30 pm and ended at 5:30 pm, was held on 25 Aug 2016. The workshop, organised by the Professional Indemnity Insurance (“PII”) and Risk Management Department of the Bar Council was held at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, Straits Trading Building in Kuala Lumpur. There were approximately 43 participants who attended the workshop and most of them were legal practitioners. The registration of participants started at 2:00 pm and the workshop carried two Continuing Professional Development (“CPD”) points.
The presenter, GK Ganesan covered two topics: “Understanding your Cost” and “Filing for Better Billing”. He highlighted the need to have proper record of each document that will be used to prepare bills for a client. He added that the documents might help to collect any outstanding payment as well.
He shared his experiences and knowledge with the participants and suggested improvements for a better finance system.
From the feedback received, the majority of the participants agreed that the workshop met their expectations to enhance their understanding and improve the procedures in a law firm.
