The nullification of the July 2001 Certificate in CLP examination results

The Bar Council had at its meeting on 24 November 2001 considered the problem of nullification of the July 2001 Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination results.
After lengthy deliberations, the following decisions were made:
1. The Bar Council urges the Qualifying Board to rescind its decision made on 12 November 2001 to nullify the main July 2001 examination results, subject to the proviso that the Board may nullify any results found to have been obtained through any form of impropriety.
2. The Bar Council recommends that all candidates who sat for the CLP October 2001 examinations be required to re-sit for all papers of the CLP examinations.
3. The Bar Council calls on the Government to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate into the conduct of the CLP examinations, to report any improprieties found in relation thereto, and to make the necessary recommendations concerning the conduct of the future examinations and to any other matters in connection therewith.
4. The Bar Council ca1ls for the immediate suspension of the Director of the Qualifying Board.
These decisions were made known to the Qualifying Board on 25 November 2001 for their consideration.
