The appointment of Datuk Abdul Gani Patail as the Attorney General PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 December 2001 12:00am
The Bar Council at its last meeting held in December decided to send directly to the Honourable Prime Minister its views on the appointment of Datuk Abdul Gani Patail as the Attorney General. The Bar Council has since conveyed its views to the Honourable Prime Minister as the appointment of the Attorney General is of public concern and of public interest.

The Bar Council is of the view that the judgment of the three Judges in Zainur Zakaria's Contempt of Court Case have called in question the conduct of Datuk Abdul Gani Patail. The Federal Court is the apex Court of the land and due respect and weight ought to be given to its decision.

The Bar Council wishes to place on record that its views are strictly independent. The Bar Council is not politically motivated nor influenced by politics, politicians or political parties in any way.

Dated this 19th day of December 2001

Mah Weng Kwai
Chairman
Bar Council
