Early release of the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 05 January 1999 12:00am

The Bar Council calls for an early release of the findings of the special investigation team into the injuries suffered by Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim whilst in police custody. The Bar Council notes that the Honourable Attorney-General has decided to seek the opinion of a forensic consultant to study the findings submitted to him. In this respect, the Bar Council reiterates the resolution adopted by the Malaysian Bar at its EGM on October 10, 1998 for the appointment of an independent Royal Commission of Inquiry over the complaint of the assault. This will enable the appointment of persons of different disciplines including forensic specialists to submit at one go a comprehensive report.

Nevertheless the Bar Council believes that an early release of the findings as made will go towards meeting public expectations on a matter that has aroused interest and concern with both the local and international community.

Dated: 5 January 1999

Dato' Dr. Cyrus V Das
President
