  • The seminar aims to update participants on international tax law issues.

    Topics and Speakers

    “Developing an Independent and Effective Tax Judiciary: The Indian Scenario" by the Rt Hn Pramod Kumar of the Indian Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (”ITAT”).

    Rt Hn Pramod Kumar has authored numerous judgments covering almost all tricky areas of direct taxes in India, on international taxation and transfer pricing.  He has authored several landmark judgments on international taxation and transfer pricing-related disputes in India.  His judgments on international tax are included in the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (”IBFD”) database of tax treaty cases.

    “The Convergence of the Interpretation of Tax Treaties” by Professor Wim Wijnen of the IBFD.

    Prof Wim Wijnen is counsel to the Academic Chair of IBFD.  He is also a teacher of International Tax Law at Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali in Rome, Italy and a part-time judge of the Court of Appeal of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.  His previous experiences include working as a tax inspector in the Dutch tax administration and head of the Bilateral Afairs Division of the International Fiscal Afairs Department of the Dutch Ministry of Finance, and working for Loyens and Volkmaars in Rotterdam.  Prior to his current positions, Prof Wijnen also worked as head of the IBFD research staf and, in that capacity, was a member of the Board of Directors of IBFD.

  • Aurobindo Ponniah — Director, Asia-Paciic, IBFD;
  • Veerinderjeet Singh — Chairperson, International Fiscal Association  Malaysia (”IFA”);
  • Anand Raj — Chairperson, Tax and GST Subcommittee; and
  • Vijey M Krishnan — Deputy Chairperson, Tax and GST Subcommittee.
