Roundtable on Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre’s Suggestions for Liberalisation of the Legal Profession (25 Aug 2011)
Under the continuing liberalisation of the services sector in Malaysia, the Legal Profession Act 1976 will be amended to introduce international partnerships and qualified foreign law firms as permitted models for law firms in Malaysia. The introduction of such models will have far-reaching implications on the legal landscape of Malaysia.
Following the successful briefing on the same topic by the representatives of Bank Negara Malaysia last week, Bar Council will facilitate a roundtable this coming Thursday for Members of the Bar to discuss the latest proposal from Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre. The latest proposal is an expansion of Bar Council’s original proposal on international partnership and qualified foreign law firms.
Members are invited to attend this roundtable to learn about the various models that are being proposed in relation to the liberalisation of the legal profession in Malaysia, as well as to provide feedback on this topic.
