Increase in Service Tax from 5% to 6% with Effect from 1 Jan 2011
On 15 Oct 2010, the Honourable Finance Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib b Tun Abdul Razak, during the Budget 2011 speech, announced that the rate of service tax will increase from 5% to 6% with effect from 1 Jan 2011.
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (“RMC”) has issued the document, entitled “Garis Panduan Pelaksanaan Pengenaan Cukai Perkhidmatan Berdasarkan Pengumuman Bajet 2011”.
The document, taken from RMC’s website, sets out its explanation of how the increase in service tax from 5% to 6% will be implemented, and certain issues relating to the transition.
