Date: 28 July 2011 (Thursday)
Time: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Venue: Bar Council Auditorium (1st Floor)

In March 2011, the Malaysian Government announced that it would ratify the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court (“ICC”) in 1998, and thus join the community of 116 States Parties of the ICC.  The ICC is an independent and permanent court to try persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression.

We invite you to attend a public forum, organised by the Bar Council Human Rights Committee, to learn about the benefits that Malaysia would enjoy by ratifying the Rome Statute.  The forum will also provide an update on the measures and steps taken by Government ministries and departments in their efforts to ratify the Rome Statute.

This forum is organised in conjunction with International Justice Day, which is celebrated on 17 July every year. Confirmed panellists include representatives from the Government and the international criminal bar.
