We refer to Circular No 224/2011 dated 5 Oct 2011, where we invited Members of the Bar to register to attend two events – the Dedication and Naming of the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium Ceremony, and the Inaugural Raja Aziz Addruse Memorial Lecture – that will be held on 29 Oct 2011 (Saturday). The deadline to register for these events has been extended to 25 Oct 2011 (Tuesday). Details of these events are provided below.
Our distinguished Past President, Raja Aziz Addruse, passed away peacefully on 12 July 2011 at the age of 75.
The late Raja Aziz Addruse was called to the Malaysian Bar on 8 Jan 1966. He served as President of the Malaysian Bar for three terms — 1976–1978, 1988–1989 and 1992–1993. He was a firm advocate of the rule of law and had little hesitation taking a stand against violations of human rights and executive dominance. He appeared regularly in the Appellate Courts as a senior counsel and argued many difficult and controversial cases for the Malaysian Bar.
In order to recognise Raja Aziz Addruse’s contributions to the legal fraternity and the nation, Bar Council Malaysia has decided to name our auditorium the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium as well as to initiate a memorial lecture series in his name.
The details of the Dedication and Naming of the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium Ceremony are as follows:

The ceremony will be followed thereafter by the Inaugural Raja Aziz Addruse Memorial Lecture, organised by Bar Council Malaysia in collaboration with the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn Alumni Association, Malaysia. Details are as follows:

Guests are advised to arrive by 9:30 am in order to be seated by 9:45 am for the start of the Dedication and Naming of the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium Ceremony in order to ensure the event runs smoothly.
