Please note that it is not compulsory for Item 6 and Item 7 to be paid together with Items 1 to 5. Payment of Item 6 and Item 7 can be made upon application for your 2012 Sijil Annual/Practising Certificate.
We would like to draw your attention to sections 46(5) and (6) of the Legal Profession Act 1976, which read as follows (emphases added):
(5) Liability to pay any annual subscription to the Malaysian Bar shall arise when the subscription has been fixed by the Bar Council. All annual subscriptions to the Malaysian Bar shall be paid by the 30th day of June of each year.
(6) An advocate and solicitor shall, if he pays his annual subscription after the date mentioned in subsection (5), pay to the Bar Council, in addition to the subscription due, an amount equivalent to the subscription so due.
Please note that the deadline of 30 June 2011 for payment of the annual subscription fees must be strictly adhered to and no application for waiver of penalty will be entertained. If you fail to pay by the deadline of 30 June 2011, you will have to pay an additional sum of RM450.
Kindly ensure that your name and membership number are clearly written on the reverse side of the cheque(s). The receipt for the sum of RM760 will be indicated as “Bar Council Subscription” to facilitate tax exemption.
