Working on weekends, pulling all-nighters, low remuneration, lack of sleep and irregular eating hours?  Do these sound familiar?  Can you relate to these complaints and whinings?  Have you had enough?

Then join us at the Young Lawyers Convention 2011 for our “Working Conditions” Session!

The Young Lawyers Convention has always championed the rights and well-being of young lawyers.  This year, it is no different, with particular emphasis on the current working conditions of young lawyers – be it in Kuala Lumpur or the northern, southern and eastern states.

The National Young Lawyers Committee (“NYLC”) has dedicated an entire forum on the working conditions of young lawyers, featuring speakers from both within and outside Kuala Lumpur, and from both sides of the employer-employee camp.  The forum will be conducted in a talk-show format – the same vein that one is accustomed to on the Oprah Winfrey Show, but with a twist akin to the BBC’s famed Hard Talk programme!  The host will challenge employers’ stand on remuneration and long hours whilst questioning young lawyers’ dedication and expectations.  Participants will be encouraged to raise questions, thus pressing speakers to provide satisfactory answers.

Exciting times?  You bet, but that is not all!  The NYLC will also reveal the Working Conditions survey (a collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Bar Young Lawyers Committee) that is hoped will pave the way forward in terms of working conditions for young lawyers.

Be part of it.  Have a say in it!  Shape the destiny and future of your practice!

It begins at the Young Lawyers Convention 2011.  See you there!

The Young Lawyers Convention, an event that happens once every three years, will take place from 1 to 3 July 2011 at Everly Beach Resort, Malacca.  Contact Kamala Thakar Singh, officer-in-charge, by telephone at 03-2050 2098 or by email at kamala@malaysianbar.org.my, for further details.
