Contributed by Colin Nichols (Centre for Orang Asli Concerns, www.coac.org.my)

With the sum of RM919.00 from the Bar’s NYLC Flood Fund, we purchased mosquito nets of varying brands and quality on 16 March 2007. The shops ran out of nets that day, and that is why we had to buy them from 4 different shops. In addition, we also bought medicine and rations which were distributed to the villagers of Kampung Gong.

The two communities we had time to visit did not need all the mosquito nets we had. They suggested that we give the remaining 11 nets to other villages, which we plan to do so. The village we have in mind is the Chewong community in Kuala Gandah, an equally “left-behind” community. We will be visiting this village next week.

Thank you again to the Malaysian Bar for this generous deed! The nets will have long-term benefits and savings (in terms of health costs) for the Jakuns concerned, and are really appreciated.

Final despatch of mosquito nets from the Bar’s NYL
written by Edmund Bon, 30 March, 2007 at 02:03 am

Colin Nichols (Centre for Orang Asli Concerns, www.coac.org.my) reports:

"Just a short note to inform the Bar that we had on 23 March 2007 distributed the final 14 (not 11 as earlier mentioned) mosquito nets to the Chewong community in Kuala Gandah, near Lanchang in Pahang.

Once again, many thanks to the Malaysian Bar for this!"
