KUALA LUMPUR: Siri Pemikiran Kritis II meneruskan sesi keduanya pada malam
20.06.2007 dengan tema yang lebih santai tetapi menarik iaitu “Antara Teh Tarik,
Starbucks dan KLCC; Apakah kita sudah mencapai sebuah negara maju?”.
Bertempat di Dewan Auditorium Majlis Peguam, Majlis yang telah menarik kehadiran
lebih 60 orang peserta yang terdiri daripada peguam, penggiat seni, pelajar dan
orang awam ini telah mengundang tiga orang ahli panel yang arif dalam bidang
masing-masing iaitu Pang Khee Teik (Art Program Director of the Central Market
Annexe), Brian Yap (Penulis Kanan Majalah Klue, salah seorang pelakon utama
filem “Mualaf” arahan Yasmin Ahmad) dan Yasmin Ahmad (Pengarah Filem terkenal).
Memulakan sesi malam tersebut dengan penuh dramatik, Pang Khee Teik membawa
hadirin melihat evolusi kesedaran secara tersirat dan menyimpulkan bahawa sebuah
negara yang membenarkan ekspresi tanpa sebarang penapisan dan halangan akan
melahirkan rakyat yang berfikiran lebih matang dan berkembang.
Seterusnya, menjawab persoalan tema adakah kita sudah mencapai sebuah negara
maju, Brian Yap secara berseloroh menyatakan tidak. Beliau menyarankan kepada
para hadirin bahawa Malaysia sebenarnya lebih besar dan bermakna daripada apa
yang dijangkakan dan bukan sekadar apa yang wujud dan dapat dilihat . Beliau
juga menyuarakan rasa kecewa kerana pelajar-pelajar di Malaysia tidak diberikan
kebebasan berfikir dan bereksperimentasi, malah disekat dengan undang-undang dan
halangan.
Bagi Yasmin Ahmad pula, masyarakat Malaysia sebenarnya lebih mengambil langkah
ke belakang berbanding masyarakat negara lain kerana menurut beliau, masyarakat
Malaysia tidak belajar menyayangi diri mereka sendiri, malah mereka juga tidak
tahu mengambil berat tentang golongan yang kurang bernasib baik.
