The Quebec Essential Services Council has ordered the city's blue-collar union and Montreal's municipal administration to attend a mediation session today to tackle the latest in their series of disputes, council spokesperson Robert Lalonde said yesterday.
The session will be held behind closed doors, before mediator Daniel Desfossés.
The council issued the order after the union laid a complaint claiming municipal officials are making "an abusive usage of manual workers" by calling them out to garages - and then ordering them to cool their heels on standby - during a recent series of rotating, borough-by-borough work stoppages called as a pressure tactic by the union.
