A graduate, with LLB (Hons.) from Bristol University, England, Datuk J.C. Fong
was called to the English Bar by the Lincoln's Inn in November 1971, and to the
Sarawak Bar in January 1972.
He was in active legal practice in Sarawak from January 1972 till his retirement as a Senior Partner of the law firm, M/s Reddi & Co. in Kuching on 31 July, 1992.
He was appointed State Attorney-General, Sarawak on 8 August, 1992.
As an advocate and as State Attorney-General, Sarawak, he appeared in a large

He was also the President of the Advocates’ Association of Sarawak from 1982
till 1984 and was a founder member of the Association.
From October 1981 till February 1992, Datuk Fong was a Councillor in the Kuching
Municipal Council (now Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan). During that period, he
also served as Chairman of the Kuching Rating Tribunal.
He now sits on the Board of Directors of several Government-linked companies, as
representative of the State Government of Sarawak.
For his public services, he was conferred the award of Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN)
by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Malaysia in 1999 and Panglima Gemilang Bintang
Kenyalang (PGBK) by the Governor of Sarawak in 1994. Both awards carry the title
“Datuk”.
