They are the Chief Executive Officer of Companies Commission
of Malaysia, Encik Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil and senior lawyers, Michael Lim Hee
Kiang and Datuk Loh Siew Cheang. Abdul Karim was also the Head of the Appeals Unit at the Prosecution Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers at the end of 2000. In 2001, he was appointed Director of the Enforcement Division at the Securities Commission, and subsequently as Director of the Enforcement and Legal Division at the Anti-Corruption Agency between 1 May 2004 and 31 October 2005. Abdul Karim is also a board member of the Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA) as well as a member of the Foreign Investment Committee (FIC) and the Financial Reporting Foundation. Michael Lim is an Advocate and Solicitor practising with
Messrs. Shearn Delamore & Co., Kuala Lumpur. He has been a partner of the firm
for the last 29 years. He obtained his LLB (Hons) in 1972 and LLM with
Distinction from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 1973. He
was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor to the Supreme Court of New Zealand in
l973. On returning to Malaysia, in l974 he was admitted to the High Court,
Sarawak and Brunei and subsequently to the High Court of Malaya in 1978. He was
the first Malaysian Barrister & Solicitor from New Zealand to be admitted to the
High Court of Malaya, West Malaysia. Lim was a lecturer at the Law Faculty,
University of Malaya for three years from l975 - l977. He practises in the area
of the company law in which he is involved in corporate advisory work, strategic
planning, mergers and acquisitions, foreign investments and company
restructurings. Datuk Loh is the Managing Partner of Messrs Cheang & Ariff, Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his LL.B (Hons) from the University of Malaya and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 23 February 1978. His specific areas of practice are Corporate and Commercial Litigation, Corporate and Regulatory Laws. His legal publications include Corporate Powers – Controls, Remedies and Decision making (1996); Corporate Powers – Accountability (Second Edition) 2002 and Company Law: Powers and Accountability (HK 2003) which he co-authored with William Wong. KUALA LUMPUR, Mon: Three speakers will discuss issues
of corporate governance and recent amendments to the Companies Act 1965 in the
Corporate law session at the October Malaysian Law Conference.
