KUALA LUMPUR, Tues: Former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Munir A. Malik who delivered a paper at the recent Malaysian Law Conference here has been arrested and ordered to be imprisoned for one month under preventive detention orders.

The others detained include the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Iftikhar Chaudhry, several senior judges, current SCBA president Aitzaz Ahsan and another former SCBA president, Tariq Mahmood. A Shabby Little
written by Haji Sulaiman Abdullah, Tuesday, November 06 2007 09:31 pm

What a shabby dictator proclaiming a shabby Emergency for the shabbiest of reasons! The courageous people of Pakistan have been shabbily let down by their shabby, moth-eaten "leaders".

But, one must congratulate the Pakistani Bar and Judiciary on the principled stand taken to disregard all the illegalities perpetrated by those in power. The world has seen the brutal faces of the policemen, uniformed and plainclothed, who have treated protesting lawyers so cruelly. Do they think they can escape lawful retribution?

May God protect the people of Pakistan! This shabby dictator certainly isn't!

25% Pak Lawyers Jailed
written by Haji Sulaiman Abdullah, Tuesday, November 06 2007 10:07 pm

I was astonished to read in the CNN Website that there are only 12,000 lawyers in Pakistan. And that 3,000 of them have been jailed by Musharaff. And that Pakistani police have been given an extra bonus for being extra-brutal to protesting lawyers!

I do not think that these are the lessons one learns in the Pak equivalent of Sandhurst.
