Motion:
The Malaysian Bar TAKING NOTE THAT the contempt proceedings were instituted against Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Omar at the instance of the Malaysian Bar, and FURTHER TAKING NOTE that the Secretary of the Malaysian Bar acted throughout such proceedings at the behest and direction of the Malaysian Bar
HEREBY DECLARES THAT
the Malaysian Bar is in complete solidarity with its Secretary, Manjeet Singh Dhillon.
AND RE-AFFIRMS THAT
whatever was said and done in the proceedings by Manjeet Singh Dhillon was solely for and on behalf of the Malaysian Bar.
AND FURTHER DECLARES THAT
the purpose of the whole contempt proceedings was simply to demonstrate the Malaysian Bar’s commitment to the principle that the Rule of Law applies to all persons regardless of their position and status.
AND
Calls upon the Attorney-General to cite each and every Member who have so consented for the alleged contempt together with Manjeet Singh Dhillon.
Resolution:
The Motion, as amended, was unanimously adopted.
Follow-up Action:
1) A team of lawyers comprising Mr Jagjit Singh, YM Raja Aziz Addruse, YB Dato’ Param Cumaraswamy, Mr Cyrus Das and Mr Darryl Goon were appointed to act for Mr Manjeet Singh Dhillon;
2) The application for admission of Lord Alexander of Weedon Q.C. for the defence of the Secretary was dismissed by the High Court. A further application for the admission of Mr Anthony Lester Q.C. was also dismissed by the High Court.
